Lapsen oikeuksien päivä ja luonnontuhontalain eteneminen

Odotamme suurella mielenkiinnolla joulukuun ICC:n osapuolikokousta, jossa luonnontuhontalain lisääminen Rooman perussääntöön tuodaan virallisesti keskusteluun Vanuatun, Fijin ja Samoan toimesta. Julkaisemme linkin tapahtumien seuraamiseen pian!

Eilen, Lapsen oikeuksien päivänä, Patricia Willocq, Stop Ecocide Belgiumin johtaja sekä ranskankielisten maiden kampanjajohtaja Stop Ecocide Internationalissa kirjoitti LinkedInissä seuraavasti:

”👧👦𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲🌍👧👦

When I became a mother, I fell into a state of eco-anxiety, spending sleepless nights wondering about the world my child and all children would inherit.

I then heard about the concept of 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞) 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 and was stunned to discover that no law existed to deter such devastating acts – that it was simply permitted due to the absence of legislation.

Joining the Stop Ecocide International Movement while continuing my work as a UNICEF photographer was a real turning point in my life 𝐚𝐬 𝐈 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞!

🚨The stakes couldn’t be higher: environmental destruction and climate change are devastating children’s lives through cascading effects – from respiratory illness and malnutrition to psychological trauma, disrupted education and compromised development that can permanently alter their future.

As we celebrate Worlds Children´s Day, we must recognise that 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐲𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬.

🌈𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐰 is not just a legal concept—it’s a profound commitment to securing a liveable, sustainable planet for our most precious resource: our children. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 International human rights frameworks now explicitly recognise children’s right to a 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 as fundamental to their survival and future well-being. 🌱

✨𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐰 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞. 𝐁𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.✨

🏝️Pacific island nations like Vanuatu, Fiji, and Samoa have been at the forefront of this critical movement, 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭’𝐬 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞. The Democratic Republic of Congo has become the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 to endorse this transformative legal framework, sending a powerful message of environmental accountability. Their 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 reflects the urgent reality of communities most threatened by environmental degradation and climate change.”
